EZL problem?

Dear fellow member,

Sorry for asking questions in English.

My car, 2.5-16v with auto transmission, seems to be slow to respond at low rpm. The car starts with no issue cold or hot, while idle at around 1000rpm, steadily. But when i kick down/push all the throttle, it slow to respond, as if the gear starts from gear number 2 not, and changes gear at 4000rpm. But continuing all the way after ward, the respond is much better at higher rpm.

After reading this forum, the symptoms seem similar fellow member here, shaq i think, that has EZL issue. I also found out that I had the wrong EZL for 6cyl engine in place, but when I changed to 4cyl EZL problem persists (parts pics below).

My questions are as follow.

1. Do you think this is EZL issue? Do I have the right EZL module?
2. EZL module for 2.5 16v is specific and cannot use other 4cyl EZL? Some people are saying ok to use one from latter generation 4cyl 190e. Also, any difference between auto and manual EZL?
3. I have browsed some used EZL on ebay. How would I know it is in good working condition? The ones on ebay have part number 006 545 38 32, would they be the right part?

Any insight is highly appreciated.

cheers,
Olie

Hello Olie,

some years ago i changed my 2.5-16v from automatic transmission to manuel trans.
I should have the right EZL in my garage and i will look for it this evening.

As far as I know, the first gear of the auto transmission is restricted to max. rpm less 1000 to 1200 rpm, cause of the oil distribution inside of the gearbox and converter.
The gearshift from first to second gear in case of a kickdown should happen at around 5800 to 6000 rpm. Also the engine/gearbox should response at once in case of a kickdown.

There is a book called Mercedes Tabellenbuch, in which some types of EZL are listed according the right type of engine and transmission.
Maybe you are lucky to find it via Google, cause i don´t have this book. ;)

Greetings
Stephan

Hi Olie,

as far as I know you definitely need a specific EZL for 16 valve models. 8 valve EZL or any other 4 cylinder EZL wont work properly I think.
I am not quite sure, but I think there are even different EZL for 2,3 (ECE and non-ECE) and 2,5 versions. So, be careful picking the right EZL ;-)

Ton

Great info, Many thanks. Would it be correct to assume this is for LHD 2.5 16v? Got info that for RHD 2.5 16v, EZL part number is 008 545 48 32.

Cheers
Olie
