Suche: Evo 2 Schaltknauf (Look a like or whatever)

Sorry i only speak english on my end

im looking for a replace ment Schaltknauf for my Evo

i recently had contact with Shaq about an Old Schaltknauf (evo 2 025/500) that he was able to buy
but it was not worth the money and it was able to be engraved for like 10 euro's or something

im looking for an Evo II Copy Schaltknauf with the plastic cover and the numbers in there (kinda replica ish maby ?)
or an original one that is taken of an Original Evo (but i dont understand why someone would do that)

I hope someone could help me

i dont know

i had contact with EMA in Holland (wich is a huge MB retailer) and they couldnt help me,
so i tried to get in contact with the Classic center in Stuttgart, who told me i need to get in contact with a local dealer because the W201 or EVOII is to young for the classic center

but EMA Company is Like a sort of Local Dealer

i hope someone could help me,

im wondering how EVO owners handle with this. i mean there schakelhebel wears out to and they want to get new ones from time to time

I asked my Mercedes dealership the same question once upon a time.

The answer is (as officially stated in a Mercedes Part Catalog - EPC), a new leather gear stick (without number plate) can be ordered from Mercedes anytime for 200+ EUR, but number plate is to be transfered from old to new gear stick, the same goes for certain sportline gear shifts (the one with Getrag shift pattern) there is NO possibility to order them new anymore...

How About an second hand Schaltknauf/hebel from an Sportline ?

maby a replica or make my own Evo II Plakkete (embleem)

Is also possible, engraving on sportline is not too deep, you can send it down from down side with 180 paper until it is gone (i tried that once, because sportline lettering was already destroyed with super glue I bought it on ebay) then polish with finer grade grid paper and water and 400 800 1200 2000 3000 as last step polish with Xerapol and it is as brand new.

After that you need somebody to make image preparation in CAD software (for example Corel) and to find right Font because it is specific, after that go to engraving shop and let it be laser engraved in 10 seconds!

Important after engraving use non agressive paint, best oil soluble to be sure plastic will not be damaged with it.

thats some nice Tips

so u took a Sportline Plakkete and sanded that from the downside until the engraving was gone and u have a clear piece of plastic right? than u took an piece of plastic (black collour maby) and took that to the Engraven shop, they did there work (maby a custom number for example) and u put painted the engraved lines with oil soluble paint, and than glue or put the Clear plastic from the Sportline plakkete together with the Engraved ?

or did readed it wrong?
i have never seen a plakkete in real so i dont know it yet. what it also could be to get ur point is u mean the upside down side from the plakkete is engraved directly and just painted from the underside, if it gets glued to the Schaltknauf itself and i take it lose the paint is stuck to the glue on the knauf itself and it will destroy everything?

if i could get my hands on a picture of an plakkete from both sides top and down view it will tell me more

please correct me if i said something wrong

First the plaque is black painted.
Then the numbers are engraved.
The numbers are painted last.

thanks for the picture that u made, if i now can find a picture of the underside of the plakkette .

is it like multiple layers? the first layer with the engraved letters and numbers and a clear polished top layer for protection and shinyness ? and glued together ?

i made this paint drawing real quick maby this explains my thoughts, im not sure if its the Right way

finished product MUST NOT be glued to gear stick (leather) not to destroy it. Specially not with some powerful glue like Super Glue, 2 Component glue, Sikaflex or similar.

Because there is a hole (better we say a mold) in leather from the top if you just put it in (without glue) it will stay there don't worry

Mercedes used some special jelly ring to secure it in place, it has even less of adhesive properties than a chewing gum! Also it can be removed at anytime, and even after 20 years paint won't get damaged you can reuse this jelly ring after engraving.

All the work is done from bottom side, first is polishing than painting in black, than engraving and the last is pouring paint silver and red in holes from bottom side too (that's how original is made) I have some sportlines and will take picture during the day to explain my point.

The most important is no aggressive paint and in no way super glue or similar!

see how paint is just poured over the letters, please not that blue is poured over the silver that means after the silver



here are examples of automatic top part (smaller) to the left, normal (sportline and evo2) in middle and normal 16 to the right



these are my spare parts, they are brand new





in my car I have azzurro lether with 2x memory (driver and passanger side) I also have put azzurro gear stick only exchanged emblem from automatic sportline (dimensions are 100% and exact the same)



(please no comments on tidyness in car, it is under restoration now and motor is out, hope to complete it in 1-2 months)

that is So simple, just sand the existed engraving away, than paint it black, (Oil based paint ofc) than engrave it, paint the letters and numbers and DONE
and no glueing involved

Just take it easy first find some really good designer to make You a good drawing in Corel and show him this thread

Take care on dimensions and exact font, after please tell us what font it was to help others here!

also it is not just simple engraving 2D it should be done 3D and I think 1mm deep and special care is to be taken that each number in xxx/500 where middle of numbers are deeper engraved than outer and inner lines for 0,5mm and it is like 1,5mm in total or so.

My suggestion is to try engraving some plexiglass first for a few times to be sure everything is good prepared (it is the same material and every engraving shop has plenty of it) before you put your sanded and painted sportline emblem into engraving machine as if they ruin sportline because of poor preparation in Corel you must do all the buying on ebay and sending again

like always it is PRACTICE MADE PERFECT

I think dimensions are the same (but can not guarantee) because I saw some people put like this on 190e gear knob and it was fit (see picture C Class gear shift, and W124 sportline sign mounted without problems)

Notice how leather is sewed all the way up to the sign = W202 leather gear knob
